12/5/12 - Big Bang, K-Town and NYC

Oh it's been a while. So much has happened since the last post.  We've had K-class, went to New York and...isn't that enough?

We're doing a lot in K-class.  We didn’t have class last week, but this week we went over the days and months.  So last week I made cheat charts to put up on my desk at work of the numbers, months and days.  This week Mr. Lee made me write the numbers on the whiteboard in front of everyone.  I did ok, but he yelled me for writing too fast and not writing in order.  Whatever – it was good.

So on the 8th we went to New York to see Big Bang at the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ.  The drive was long – very long – and I found out Sprint works much better out of Michigan (watched a few dramas along the way).

Big Bang was f-ing AWESOME!!  Boo and I had a great time.  Boo got a shirt and some stickers before the show started.  Our seats were up high, but the energy was still high in the stands.  We danced, we sang and we had a ball.  They played songs like Fantastic Baby, Still Alive, Haru Haru, Monster and Tonight.  GD and TOP sang High High (my fav song of the night) and it was wicked cool.  Deasung, Taeyoung, and Seungri all did solo songs – which was cool.  GD did One of a Kind, That XX and CrayOn ß f-ing awesome.  I loved every minute of the concert.  LOVED IT!!!  BB ended up doing an encore, but only songs that they had already sung.  It was a good 2 hours of cool.

The next day we went into Manhattan and found K-town.  It took a while for us to find, and we walked A LOT, but we found it.  We looked around a bit, found a cool K-bookstore and thought it was just plain awesome.  Too early to eat, we walked up a few block (from 32nd to 51st) and hit the Lego Store and Bryant Park.  We took the subway back to 34th and found a place to eat.

We picked a restaurant called Shilla to eat at and holy cow was it good.  Our table was on the 3rd floor and it was one of those places where the waitress cooked the meat right at the table.  Sour Grapes got Bulgogi and I got Spicy Pork.  Boo got hot Bimibop and boy did it look delish!  After lunch I went back to the bookstore and got what I wanted and then we all agreed our day was over.

We all had a great time and learned a lot on the trip.  New York was amazing – I could so live there.

11/4/12 - K-class & more...

Sunday is take the girls and I to K-class in K-zoo.  Everytime, before class, Mr & Mrs Lee feed us 민두(mandu), I love it.  For a good explanation of what mandu is, check out Eat Your Kimchi.  We get to show off out chopstick skills and make fun of those who can't use them.

Today, we did a lot of listening and writing today, which I think I kind of rocked Mr. Lee's socks off at.  The big one we learned today was 나 는 사라 호톤 입니디 and 너는 누구냐?.  It's a good idea being able to say "My name is....." and "Who are you?".  The girls needs a bit of help with it but the other guy in class was lost - which is so annoying sometimes.  이 연 희 had us go through and write different people's name including Obama and Mitt.  We also worked on the vowels: ㅗㅣ, ㅗㅐ...thanks to TVXQ, I already know what ㅗㅐ means...no you keep your head down!  We finally went over soem the the numbers, too.  I've been waiting for this.  He said, we wrote - I rocked!  을, 이, 삼, 사, 오, 육, 칠, 필, 구, 십 (1-10)  I know 1-5, both ways, but now I know 1-10 with the Chinese numbers.  Maybe the korean ones will be next class (하나,둘, and so on...).

Boo and I are REALLY looking forward to the trip to NYC to see BIGBANG this weekend!!  I'm nervous that the trip won't happen due to storms and such, but I'm hoping like hell it will.  We are so excited!

I totally thought one of my shows (The Innocent Man) ended this week, so while watching episode 16, I was stressing out and worrying a bunch - come to find out there are 2 more weeks of the show - YAY!!!  FAITH, with Lee Min Ho, did end this week and holy cow was it great!  LOVED the show!  Five Fingers ends this week and we'll finally be able to put it to rest.  Full House 2 started last week, or the week before, and I like it - but I really HATE the hair styles on it.

As for music this week - I love this song by Lee Hi.  She totally sounds like a young Adele, Amy Winehouse, Lilly Allen mashup.  Lurv her!  Check out her video here:)  I am really  into the new Epic High CD as well.  Anong with the multitudes of kpop I love and over listen to on a daily basis, I like gritty, angry, comical korean rap on occasion.

고밉숩니다!!

10/28/12 - 생일 축하합니다

Today Boo and I went to Korean 한굴 class in Kalamazoo (칼라마주).  We had a great time and felt we did really good today.  Mr. Lee (이 연 희)had us write in hangul what he was saying and we both did very well.  We got a new handout packet and started working in the diphthong vowels - ㅒ, ㅔ, ㅜㅣ, ㅗㅏ, ㅡㅣ .

Also today is my birthday so.....생일 축하합니다.  My husband made a great breakfast, we went to K-class and did some shopping.  All in all - a good day!!

Lately I've been watching the Five Fingers show.  I skipped a bit, because I hate the evil mother like no one's business, but I've gotten back into the recent episodes.  I hope that lady really gets what's coming to her.  The poor kid was so happy go lucky to begin with until he found out the real truth behind the evil witch.  Now he's hard and cold.  I really hope he can turn himself around after his revenge is exacted.

Friday and Saturday I spent time watching an older drama called Autumn in my Heart (가을동화).  OMG, one if the saddest shows ever.  Damn K-drama.  It stars Song Seung Hoen and Song Hye Kyo.  The acting was great, the story was interesting and I just loved it.  I cried and cried and cried some more.  I also really liked the actors that played the main characters as children.  It was great!!

My new favorite song right now is 닐리리맘보 by B.A.P.  It's catchy and fun to car dance to.  Catch a great review of the video at Eat Your Kimchi and see Simon and Martina's view.

Speaking of Kimchi 김치 - I think I'm going to be ready to make some this week.  I planned to last week, but got hurt and needed to rest a lot.  I'm feeling better after going to the Chiropractor and think I'll be able to do it this week.  I'll definitely have to bring some for the Lee's on Sunday.  I'm going to make some radish kimchi as well as napa cabbage kimchi - wish me luck!!!

10/21/12 - Not much happening this week...

Really this week was slow.  A few of the shows I was watching ended, which is always a bummer, and we didn't end up going to K-class today.  Some new songs came out that I like, as well as new MV's for Miss A and Block B.

Wednesday night J came over and the girls and I studied for K-class after I made some awesome deep fried sushi (crab meat, cream cheese, avocado and carrot).  Sour Grapes took some to work for dinner and J took some home for lunch the next day.  It was super yummy.  This has definitely been requested to be made in the future again.  I's like to try it with some raw spicy tuna though - that's my fav.

Arang and the Magistrate ended this week.  I was glad to finally figure out the big puzzle, but the ending left me somewhat unsatisfied.  I don't normally watch historicals, but I love Shin Min Ah and would watch her do anything.

My favorite 2 shows right now are Faith and The Innocent Man.  Lee Min Ho will always get me to watch a show and Song Joong Ki is just as much a draw for me.  Both shows are intense and I never want either of them to end.

10/14 - Korean 한굴 class and more!

Today we had 한굴 class in Kalamazoo.  The girls did great and it was an all around good time.  I really like Mr. and Mrs. Lee (they own Lee's Bimibop in Kalamazoo).  We also had a more comprehensive lesson on the consonants: ㅂ ㄱ ㅅ ㄹ ㅁ ㄴ ㅇ.  Mr. Lee made me write the characters about a jillion times until I did it exactly the way he wanted, it seemed like he hated me today or something but I know he didn't.  My name in 한굴 is 사라 호톤.

On Monday, we went to Sushiya for Boo's birthday.  It was great - 대박!  Boo and I shared a hot stone bowl of their Gopdal Bimibop and a WMU roll (all sushi should be battered and deep-fried).  Tater had a bowl of rice - plain white rice (weirdo) and Grandma tried a Crazy Boy roll and Sour Grapes had like the cheapest roll on the menu, which didn't fill him up.  He thought it was too expensive - he's retarded.

Wednesday I made Japchae 잡채 and it turned out pretty well.  It's Boo's favorite dish.  She and J took some to school the next day in their little Bento boxes.  Adorable.  This time I got beef cut super thin from the store and put broccoli, zucchini, green peppers, Shitake 'shrooms, carrots and green onions in it.

Boo's been on a Kimchi 김치 kick lately, so think it's time to make a new batch.  Maybe if I do, I'll bring some to Mr. & Mrs. Lee next Sunday.

Boo and I are really looking forward to seeing BigBang next month in New Jersey at the Prudential Center.  I can't wait.  The following day we're going to Manhattan to go to K-Town.
Yep - can't wait!!!
